The Physical Character of the Delhi Region
The Delhi's of the over a wide span of time lie in the Doab, the two-waterway area of the Ganges and the Yamuna Rivers. Delhi is situated on the west bank of the Yamuna however its vicinity to the Ganges is vibrant. Delhi is affectively at a crossroads of the Ganges River Valley and the Indus River Valley where the Deccan Plateau and Thar Desert come their nearest to the Himalaya Mountains and along these lines make the hallway where Delhi is found. In this appreciation it resembles Chicago which is situated at the association point between the Missouri-Mississippi River System and the Great Lakes System.
There is an edge, the Delhi Ridge, that hurries toward the west of New Delhi and there was a hill, Raisina Hill that rose 15 meters where New Delhi now stands. The main 40 % of Raisina Hill was leveled off to give a low level to government working of the new capital of India.
New Delhi can be viewed as the tenth capital city situated in the district. The past capitals, the greater part of which was called Delhi, were:

6. Firuzabad: (The City of Firuz): City #5 was relinquished when Firuz Shah Tughluq came to control. In 1354 he moved his money to a site close where City #1 had been found. Shahjahanabad History |
9: Shahjahanabad: (The City of Shah Jahan, Old Delhi): The Mughal sovereign Shah Jahan, the grandson of Akbar, began building his new capital, what is currently called Old Delhi, in 1638. He encompassed the city with a divider and put in four gates; Ajmeri Gate, Delhi Gate, Kashmiri Gate and Turkman Gate.
10. New Delhi: In 1911 the British Government chose to move the capital of British India from Calcutta to Delhi and construct another city to house the administration. It took until around 1931 to finish the building. The city of Delhi has enlivened extraordinary love and fine written work. The writer Ahmed Ali in his Twight in Delhi portrays the city (Old Delhi) as takes after:
India Gate |
Night encompasses the city covering it like a blanket. In the faint starlight rooftops and houses and by-paths lie snoozing, wrapped in fretful sleep, breathing vigorously as the warmth gets to be harsh or shoot through the body like agony. In the yards, on the rooftops, in the by-paths, on the streets, men think about exposed beds, half stripped, and tired after the sore day's work. A couple still stroll on the generally left streets, as one, talking; and some have jasmine laurels in their grasp. The odor from the blooms gets away, aromas a couple of yards of air around them and kicks the bucket covered by the warmth. Puppies approach sniffing the canals looking for offal; and felines lurk out of thin by-paths, from under the boards bulging out of shops, and lick the earthen mugs out of which men had drunk milk and discarded.
Lal Qila in Delhi |
Heat oozes from the strolls and the world; and the drains give out a soggy stink which comes in more prominent blasts where they meet a sewer to launch their filthy water into underground canal.
Be that as it may, the city of Delhi, put together many years back, fought for, died for, longed and desired, fabricated, obliterated and revamped, for five and six and seven times, grieved and sung, assaulted and vanquished, yet entire and alive, lies aloof in the arms of rest.
